Walden deliver brilliance against the county
SWGC scratch team delivered a truly brilliant performance against a strong Cambridgeshire county team at the Windmill Hill club last Sunday. After 36 holes Walden drew 6-6 and a playoff then followed. Mark Reeve tugged an iron left of the green and bogeyed the hole - Danny Loveday found the green and two putted so CAGU prevailed.
Walden put in a gritty effort in the morning foursomes. Tuck and Reeve beat CAGU 's strongest pairing Reeson and Davies 2 up.. Macdonald and Brown then trounced Dimambro and Giblett 5 and 3. So at lunch they went in 2-2.
The afternoon singles were drawn 4-4 with some brilliant displays by Tuck winning 2 up against Loveday. Brown winning 3 and 2 against Dimambro. Burlingham beating Meeds 1 up after being 1 down on the 17th tee, and Macdonald winning 5 and 3 against Giblett.
Captain Goodman said:
"To draw 6-6 after 36 holes against a strong CAGU side was a great achievement for our first outing of the season. Olly and Mark proved irresistible in their performance in the morning. Our new pairing of Cam and Ian clicked from the word go and individually they trounced their pairings in the afternoon. Spencer showed his fighting spirit when he turned around a 1 hole deficit to win 1 up on the 18th. We now look forward to our next friendly on Sunday, 13 March".
This week we have had a swing put forward to analyse. Alan has had a number of lessons over winter and we've seen his ball flight change from a fade to a draw, as well as getting a more consistent and better strike.
The key things we are working on is a better posture which will allow Alan to turn and load up his right side better. If you can complete your turn and allow the club to work with you, the swing becomes flatter. Alan's previous ball flight came from a more upright arms dominated swing.
The video was a work in progress session, and even though the turn was better, it needed to be a touch more so the club would be more on plane at the top, over the right shoulder pointing at the target. This would give the club a more direct path back to the ball and allow Alan to turn his body and rotate his forearms onto the target together.

An update from PGA Professional: Sarah Smith
Monday's my first tournament of the season, and although I've been working hard on my swing throughout the winter with Rob, I'm still feeling a little nervous! The Berkshire has hosted the WPGA Foursomes Event for the last few years and being the first game of the season it's a nice start to play foursomes..
I went down on Wednesday this week for a practice round and the course is in great condition and the greens were very quick (even quicker than SW in the summer!). Myself and my partner Katie Rule (Mullion Golf Club) played together last year and came third shooting +5, so this year we're going for first prize!
I'll report back next week in how I got on.

|Two common faults I often see with a driver set up when teaching are; weight too left sided , and open shoulder alignment. These are both caused by the alteration with the ball position for the driver. As it's moved left in the stance for a right handed player, the weight tends to go with it, and the shoulders open at the same time.Read more...|

We do like a bit of visual technology - and that's exactly what you get with these new shoes. However, the 'cage' isn't just for show, you just have to try a pair on. Not only are they extremely comfortable, something you always get from ECCO, but they feel great through the swing.
